چکیده

Background . Late blight (agent: Phytophthora infestans (Mont.) de Bary) is one of the most destructive diseases for potato. The climate conditions in northwest Russia are very favorable annual late infestation. Spreading pathogen leads to significant harvest losses. A promising breeding strategy expand genetic diversity resistance sources. Materials and methods Resistance experimental hybrid clones blight, their ability form tubers under long daylight conditions, a number agronomic traits were studied using standard methods. Results Long-term evaluation data obtained original interspecies potato hybrids concerning blight. also assessed yield tuber characteristics. Some produced demonstrated field high yield, good traits. Clones derived from some cross combinations significantly exceeded both parents per plant size. Conclusions Crosses between cultivars various sources made it possible combine genes wild cultivated Andean species Solanum tuberosum L. with different pedigrees. Productive characteristics promise become useful material programs.

Applied potato genetics and breeding: the way ahead for potato breeding

strategies based on genotypic selection. It is concerned with producing improved cultivars for clonal propagation by tubers, and not with ones for propagation by True Potato Seed (TPS). This is because SCRI breeders are sceptical about the place of TPS in the highly developed markets of Europe and North America, whilst acknowledging that there is much interest throughout the tropics in TPS as a...

Recombinants from the crosses between amphidiploid and cultivated peanut (Arachis hypogaea) for pest-resistance breeding programs

Peanut is a major oilseed crop worldwide. In the Brazilian peanut production, silvering thrips and red necked peanut worm are the most threatening pests. Resistant varieties are considered an alternative to pest control. Many wild diploid Arachis species have shown resistance to these pests, and these can be used in peanut breeding by obtaining hybrid of A and B genomes and subsequent polyploid...

Retrospective View of North American Potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) Breeding in the 20th and 21st Centuries

Cultivated potato (Solanum tuberosum L.), a vegetatively propagated autotetraploid, has been bred for distinct market classes, including fresh market, pigmented, and processing varieties. Breeding efforts have relied on phenotypic selection of populations developed from intra- and intermarket class crosses and introgressions of wild and cultivated Solanum relatives. To retrospectively explore t...

Selection for verticillium wilt resistance in potato breeding populations derived from four cross types

Verticillium wilt (VW) is one of the important yield-limiting diseases for potato production. To develop resistant clones, the potential for early generation selection was studied using three basic selection methods, individual, family, and within family selection, for two clonal generations. A total of 152 clones were derived from four cross types (2x · 2x, 2x · 4x, 4x · 2x and 4x · 4x). Clone...
